| Renovation |
Here we Grow..... Well it is finally happening! The long awaited and anticipated
14.8 million dollar renovation to GDHS is underway. The renovation will
have three phases and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2010.
Phase one is already completed and includes the replacement of most of
the roof, five new science labs, major improvements to most student washrooms,
a complete overhaul of the PE change rooms in the main gym, new math and
language classrooms and a new mezzanine over the present cafeteria which
houses two computer labs.
The final phases have started and will see the completion of a new addition
on the east side of the school. This addition will house a new food court,
instructional areas for culinary arts and baking, and finally a new music
room. It will also see a new auditorium built where the present cafeteria
is, new drama performance and rehearsal spaces, a dance studio, a TV studio
attached to a computer lab dedicated to teaching animation and video editing
and a second wood shop.
Finally, a new elevator and lifts will be added making the school completely
wheel chair accessible. With all of this improvement comes temporary disruption.
Parents, staff and students should anticipate increased congestion in
the parking lot and drop off areas. We have moved the commencement date
to later in the fall to ensure that the school is ready to accommodate
a large audience. Likely there will be other issues that arise; students
and parents will be kept informed as necessary. |
