Extended Essay (EE)

The extended essay is a 3500-4000 words independent research essay that IB candidates must complete in order to earn their diploma. Writing an extended essay provides an opportunity for students to study an IB subject in more depth. The essay must meet international standards of scholarship and is externally evaluated by an IB panel. Students will receive instruction and guidance in writing their essay from the extended essay staff team and their subject mentors. The main advantage of writing an extended essay is the independent research skills students acquire while writing it. Emphasis in writing the essay is placed on engaging in personal research, effective communication of ideas, and overall presentation of the work. These experiences are extremely valuable.
